Everton have tied down highly-rated midfielder Ross Barkley to a new four-year contract, as reported according to reports.

The 20-year-old has put pen-to-paper on a deal thought to be worth around £65,000-a-week to end the rumours linking him with a move away from Goodison Park this summer.

The likes of Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea were all thought to be interested in the England international, but all failed to follow up with anything concrete.

And that allowed the Toffees to tie the midfielder down for a further four years after he impressed under manager Roberto Martinez last term.

Martinez is hoping to break in to the Premier League’s top four next season and will be pleased to have convinced Barkley, who has been at Everton all his life, to stay and be part of his long-term plans at the club.

Barkley said: “It didn’t take any persuading. As soon as I got told about it I wanted to sign.”
