Arsenal’s hopes of signing Marco Reus have been dealt a serious blow after Borussia Dortmund’s CEO scrapped rumours that the attacker may be allowed to leave the club.

The Premier League duo have been linked with January moves for the highly-rated German international of late.

Reus only joined Dortmund last year following an excellent spell with domestic rivals Borussia Monchengladbach.

Although he has failed to match those heights at the Westfalenstadion, the 24-year-old is still a valued member of Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Despite some rumours suggesting that City or Arsenal could have a chance of luring him away from last season’s Champions League runners-up, club CEO, Hans-Joachim Watzke, says that he expects Reus to stay.

“Marco feels very comfortable at Dortmund and we feel comfortable with him,” he is quoted by the Daily Star.

“He has an even closer relationship with the club and the city than Mario Gotze did and I expect him to stay.

“Marco was born here, his family live here and his whole life has always been based here. He knows that BVB is the perfect place for him. I am sure of that.”

Reus has a release clause of £34m in his current contract, which has led to reports that he could opt to leave Dortmund.

Arsene Wenger and Manuel Pellegrini are keen, and could move if there are any signs of unrest.
