The 20-year-old is currently on loan at the newly promoted Ligue 1 side from Portuguese outfit Rio Ave, and has been in fine form this season.

He is widely expected to leave his parent club at the end of the season to make a big move to one of Europe’s top leagues, and both Arsenal and City are keen to offer him just the opportunity he craves.

Arsenal are thought to be leading the race, with Arsene Wenger desperate to line up a new right-sided defender.

Meanwhile, Manuel Pellergini is also keen as he looks to build his squad to compete for domestic and continental honours.
