Manchester City coach Angelo Gregucci has revealed that the club are interested in making a summer move for Napoli striker Edinson Cavani.

The Premier League champions are believed to be in the market for attacking options, having sold Mario Balotelli to AC Milan last month.

Cavani has been heavily linked with a switch to the Etihad Stadium for quite some time, due to his consistent impressive displays in Serie A.

The Uruguayan international has a sizable buyout clause in his contract and is wanted by a number of Europe’s elite sides.

But, Gregucci revealed that City are still plotting a move for the 25-year-old, despite the obstacles involved in any deal:

“City will definitely have competition for Cavani, who is dominating the Italian league with his goals and sacrifices for the team and whose contract has a £55m buy-out clause.” He is quoted by Sky Sports.

“Edinson is scoring a huge number of goals this season, and it will be difficult for City to take him. The 10 biggest clubs in Europe all have Cavani in their sights.”

The Sky Blues were thought to be in the market for additions to their squad during January, but failed to secure any notable arrivals.

Balotelli’s departure was their biggest piece of business, and Gregucci feels that the striker’s move was beneficial for all involved:

“Manchester will take more than it cost, and we and Milan will both benefit, as we all know Mario can be devastating.

“Mario will also benefit because, away from the clutches of the British media, he will be able to concentrate more on football objectives.”
