Good piece. I'm totally biased - a City fan from Shropshire. I've seen some great keepers at City - Corrigan, Schmeichel, Coton, Seaman, Given. Hart is already in that bracket and there's only Peter Schmeichel in his prime that was better.

Manchester City have become a thorn in United's side, thrashing them 6-1 last year at Old Trafford and snatching the title from under United's nose, and make no mistake, Roy Keane is United to the core. Keane praised Rooney after his dire evening in Warsaw while accusing Hart of cockiness for one mistake. Forget Keane where anything about City is concerned, he's blind. Mind you, if anyone knows about cockiness it's Roy Keane, the cocky doyen of Britain.

That being said, Joe Hart cannot afford any more goal-leaaking arrors if he wants to keep that England jersey.

Agree that the criticism may have perhaps been a bit over the top and don't quite buy into the whole 'arrogance' argument either.

In interviews, he comes across as refreshingly honest and not afraid to say to what he thinks, which in this day and age of bland Michael Owen media-trained types is all the more unusual yet welcome.

However, while I appreciate that due to the nature of his position, that mistakes are made into mountains instead of molehills, his reputation far outweighs his ability at the moment. The criticism of Hart is more of a rally against the myopic views of the likes of Chiles, Redknapp etc who simply refuse to say he's made a mistake when he has done. An omerta of sorts - Hart is merely the conduit of the rage against poor, outrageously biased punditry, the sort which labelled the England team the 'Golden Generation', or the sickening montages and VT's you get on ITV comparing him to Banks and Shilton. It's patently ridiculous and has therefore provoked a string reaction.

He may well be world-class one day, but he isn't just yet. That in itself is fine, there's nothing wrong with that, he just happens to be an above average goalkeeper playing for a good and successful club and like you said, he's well away from his peak, but for a media that love a fabricated debate, he's simply the latest prime and easy target.

Superb piece. I would disagree with one point - that he is weak on crosses. Barring the infrequent lapse, I've always found Hart to be quite the opposite.

As a City fan, I couldn't care less what others think of Joe Hart, he's a City legend already, and will remain so with any luck for the rest of his career.

Mistakes get made, he recovers well from criticism and he's plainly a good hardworking man.

That's all that matters, surely?
