Manuel Pellegrini doesn’t believe that his Manchester City side are guaranteed to win the Premier League title if they beat Liverpool this afternoon.

The Sky Blues travel to the home of table-toppers for a game that is being dubbed as a ‘winner talks all’ encounter by fans and pundits alike.

On form, the Reds are English football’s top side, but City know that if they win all of their remaining games – two of which they have in hand on the Merseysiders – they will regain their league crown.

Likewise Liverpool enter the game aware that a victory will allow them to end a 24-year title wait if they maintain a 100% record, with Brendan Rodgers’ men currently four points ahead of City.

But Pellegrini says that a win at Anfield will not be an assurance of title glory, and that their remaining fixtures are just as important:

“It is a very important game against one of the teams at the top of the table.” He is quoted by the Daily Star.

“Liverpool are having a wonderful season so it is a very big game and a very important game.

“But it is not a game that will decide the title, it is a very important game but we can beat Liverpool and after if we lose against Sunderland we are not going to win the title.

“So it is a very important game because we play against the team at the top of the table, but I think if we think this game is more important than next week we are not going to win the title.

“Of course the teams that wins this game has more chance to win the title because the team that wins has three points more.

“But if you think that with this you will finish the Premier League it is a mistake.”
