Manchester City stars Yaya Toure and Sergio Aguero have both urged Barcelona’s Lionel Messi to join them at the Etihad Stadium, according to reports from the Manchester Evening News.

The attacker is widely regarded as the best player on the planet, and currently holds the prestigious Ballon d’Or award thanks to his consistent displays for, arguably, the finest club team in the game.

Despite his position, Messi is rumoured to be agitated with his current situation at the Nou Camp, with Barca having undergone a change in philosophy under new manager Tata Martino.

The Catalan side’s head coach has adopted a more direct playing style, taking the emphasis off of quick passing a precise moment – which was the club’s blueprint under former bosses such as Pep Guardiola.

Toure – who played alongside Messi at Barca – is hopeful that if he does leave his current side that it will be to join him at City:

“If it’s to come to City, I hope Messi can leave Barca,”

Aguero plays alongside Messi at international level, and is also hoping for the skilful star to start wearing the sky blue shirt:

“Yes, he should come to City. Then we’ll definitely play together! City should buy him!”
