Manchester City chief Manuel Pellegrini opted not to mention Manchester United as among the teams he is concerned about in this season’s Premier League title battle.

The Sky Blues will take on Liverpool on Monday night, in a game that will see the sides that finished first and second clash in the first heavyweight contest of the new season.

As well as the aforementioned duo, Manchester United have been put into the title mix by many pundits along with Chelsea and Arsenal, with their lack of European football giving Louis van Gaal’s men more recovery time – as Liverpool had last term.

Talking ahead of his side’s tie with the Merseysiders, Pellegrini outlined games against his his coming foes alongside the London duo as ‘six point’ affairs, but made no mention of local rivals United:

“We are just starting this season – last season for us is finished. We are not thinking any more about what happened last season.” He is quoted by Sky Sports.

“I always say to the players that these games are games of six points, especially when you play at home with the most important squads of the Premier League such as Liverpool or Arsenal or Chelsea.”
