New Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini has told Joleon Lescott he is prepared to reject any offers he receives for him as he sees him as very much part of his plans at the Etihad, according to The Telegraph.

Lescott has been strongly linked with a move away from the club for some time after falling out of favour last season with former manager Roberto Mancini.

But Pellegrini – who is to be officially unveiled as Manchester City manager at a press conference this afternoon – is thought to be a big admirer of the England defender, and wants to keep him at the club.

City have already lost Kolo Toure to Premier League rivals Liverpool this summer, and appear to have failed in their attempt to lure Pepe away from Real Madrid. Pellegrini is still keen to add one more centre back to compete for a place alongside Lescott, Matija Nastasic and club captain Vincent Kompany.

While Lescott has been assured he will get opportunities to prove his worth ahead of the World Cup next summer, he is yet to receive any offer of an extended contract. The 30-year-old has just one year left to run on his current deal, meaning he could leave the club as a free agent next summer.

Lescott’s England team mate is in a similar position, with just a year remaining on his current deal, although the 32-year-old has been told he can leave the club this summer should the fee be right. Arsenal have been linked with a £4million move for the midfielder.
