Manchester City look set to beat bitter rivals Manchester United to the signature of Racing Club star Bruno Zuculini, according to reports from The Sun.

The 20-year-old Argentine has been earning rave reviews for his performances in his homeland, and is even at outside bet to make his national side’s squad for the World Cup next summer.

City have been monitoring his progress closely, with Manuel Pellegrini keen to add young, hungry players to his ranks.

It is thought that a deal worth around £1.5m plus add-ons is close to completion, which may see United’s efforts to bag the enforcer thwarted.

Barcelona are also interested, but it is thought that the Sky Blues’ willingness to push ahead with a quick swoop for the youngster may be enough to seal a deal.

Work permit issues can sometimes be a problem with young South American footballers, however Zuculini holds an Italian passport and will be free to move.

The midfielder has long been one of Argentina’s top emerging stars, and even made his first-team debut for Racing Club at 16-years-of-age.

His older brother, Franco, also plays in Europe with Real Zaragoza.
