Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini has criticised midfielder Samir Nasri for not working hard enough this season.

The French midfielder has made just 12 league appearances for City this season and Mancini is not happy with the player’s attitude and work rate.

The Premier League champions paid Arsenal £24million for the 25 year old in 2011 but Nasri has failed to produce the form that he showed at the Emirates since his arrival.

Nasri is no longer considered a key player at the Etihad and could be part of a summer clear out for Mancini that may also include Carlos Tevez, Scott Sinclair and Gael Clichy.

Mancini himself faces a battle to still be at City come the start of next season with speculation rising that the board are unhappy with the progress or lack of progress made this season.

The FA Cup is now the only hope of a trophy for City this season but Mancini isn’t feeling the pressure and has diverted the attention onto Nasri.

“Samir has fantastic qualities. He should always play well,” Mancini told The Sun.

“A player of this quality could be one of the best players in Europe. But it’s not happening.

“If you are a top player you know you can improve until the last day of your career. But sometimes you get players who think it is not important to work and this is their worst mistake.

“You win the title, you think it’s enough to play 50 per cent and you don’t arrive the next year.”
