Jack Rodwell has described his most recent injury as ‘the worst setback of his career’, however the midfielder is confident of returning to action this month.

The 21-year-old arrived at the Etihad last summer when Manchester City paid Everton a fee in the region of £12million to secure his services, and after a difficult start to his career in Manchester, he is aiming  to return to the first team in the next two weeks.

“I feel really fit – I’ve been doing a lot of strengthening work because I’ve been out so long with my hamstring injuries so it’s taken time,” the Daily Mail quoted him as saying to City’s official website.

“It’s easily the worst injury set-back of my career because I’ve been out for more than three months, now.

Rodwell has been out of action with a hamstring injury picked up on duty with the England Under-21s, and hasn’t made an appearance for City since the 3-0 win over Sunderland at the Etihad in October.

“I feel like my career here hasn’t really got started yet, even though I feel really settled and at home now,” he continued.

“I’ll begin full training this week – all being well. Then I’ll need ten days to a fortnight to get back up to speed and I’ll be available for selection again.”

With the influential Yaya Toure also unavailable for selection while away on international duty at the African Cup of Nations, the availability of Rodwell in that midfield position would be a welcome return for Roberto Mancini.
