Manchester City have had to deny injury concerns over captain Vincent Kompany in the run up to their midweek trip to Wigan.

There were reports that the Belgian would be rested after playing through the 90 minutes against Chelsea with a knee injury he picked up during the Champions League clash against Real Madrid.

The 26-year-old had a solid game for the champions against Chelsea and did not suffer any reaction that would keep him out for a game three days later, something which City first team coach David Platt confirmed.

“Vinnie would have still been feeling the effects of the injury that he picked up last Wednesday in the game but he got through the game and got through it very well,” Platt told Sportinglife.

“There were no after effects, he iced it straight afterwards as a precaution.

“We don’t really have any concerns for him tomorrow night.”

Kompany is set to continue his partnership with 19-year-old Matija Nastasic who is currently keeping England defender Joleon Lescott out of the side.

One defender who will not make the trip due to injury is left back Gael Clichy who will be kept on the side-lines due to an ankle complaint which has kept him out of the last two games.

“Gael is progressing well, if not better, than we probably expected, but he won’t be involved tomorrow,” Platt added.

“I don’t think he will be on the training pitch even towards the end of this week so Saturday is out as well.”
