Manchester City transfer news: Mancini chases Spanish international
Real Betis midfielder Benat has been in dazzling form in the last 18 months and this has resulted in him being rewarded with an international call up from national boss Vicente Del Bosque.
The Spanish midfielder hails from the Basque region and has helped Betis produce a highly encouraging start with Pepe Mel’s side sitting comfortably in 5th place in La Liga.
At 5ft 9in the diminutive midfielder is known for his technical ability and flair rather than his overawing physical presence, and he would be looking to provide a similar influence to that of skilful fellow Spaniard David Silva.
The Manchester City boss is not short of central midfield options, however, having acquired Javi Garcia from Benfica on transfer deadline day for a reported £16 million fee.
He also can call upon the likes of Gareth Barry and Yaya Toure but with the latter set to depart to the African Cup of Nations in January, the Italian may feel the need to call upon further reinforcements.
Last summer’s Premier League transfer window was quiet by Manchester City’s recent standards. Despite completing the signings of Jack Rodwell and Javi Garcia amongst others, Benat could be one of many to enter the Etihad stadium in January.
Benat has already provided four assists this season and the improvement of the former Athletic Bilbao ace could convince City chiefs that he is capable of performing in the upper echelons of the Premier League.
