Manchester City may be set for a summer battle to keep Alvaro Negredo at the club, with reports from Fichajes suggesting that Real Madrid are after the striker.

Los Blancos have sold star forward Alvaro Morata to Juventus, and are keen to use the funds raised to snap up an experienced goal-getter as they plot to steal the La Liga crown from city rivals, Atletico Madrid.

Negredo fits the bill perfectly after impressive spells in his homeland with Sevilla and Almeria since leaving Real’s ‘B’ team in 2007.

‘The Beast’ has recently spoken out of his happiness at the Etihad Stadium after speculation that he was ready to leave, but the lure of Madrid and a fresh chance at the Bernabeu may be enough to entice the 28-year-old.

Negredo only joined City last year, and made a blistering start to life in English football.

But the last of his 23 goals for the Sky Blues came in January as his form tailed off dramatically.

Atletico were ready to pay £12m for the burly goal-getter until a few weeks ago, but it is thought that Manuel Pellegrini would like more for his man.

What do you think?
