Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini says that his side’s Premier League title hopes are in their own hands after they beat Southampton 4-1.

The Sky Blues took the lead at home to the Saints before being pegged back by a Rickie Lambert penalty.

But they then raced clear to claim an important three points in the battle for English football’s top prize.

The result leaves them two points off of leaders Chelsea, but with two games in hand City know that if they claim maximum points between now and the end of the campaign they will finish at the top of the pile.

After the game Pellegrini said that his side will decide their own fate, and called on them to maintain their winning streak:

“We just depend on ourselves until the end of the season – it’s important to continue playing the way we did in the second half because I thought it was a great performance.” He is quoted by Sky Sports.

“We are enjoying a very good second round of fixtures where the results are much better than the first half.

“We’ve had four wins and one draw in our last five games – maybe we had low performances in the month of February but I think that now the team has come back to its best performances.”

City face a potential title decider next weekend when they travel to Anfield to take on Liverpool.
