Kurt Zouma (Saint Etienne)Manchester United and Manchester City are set to go head-to-head in the race for Saint Etienne defender Kurt Zouma, according to reports from the Daily Mail.

The Frenchman has emerged as on of Ligue 1’s top talents in recent times, attracting much interest from across Europe.

City and United are just two of the many sides monitoring the 18-year-old, and could enter a battle for his signature in January.

Citizens chief Manuel Pellegrini has scouts assessing the teenager of late and is rumoured to be considering meeting St-Etienne’s £7m valuation.

But, United are also keen, with David Moyes desperate to get his side’s season back on track.

The Red Devils returned to the top half of the Premier League with a weekend win over Sunderland, but the Scot is believed to have concerns about his defensive options.

Despite his age, Zouma has made almost 50 first-team appearances for St-Etienne, developing into one of their key men.

His consistent displays have led to rumours that he may soon graduate to France’s senior international side from the U-21s.

His employers are keen to keep him, but are aware that a big offer from a top club may force through a deal.
