Manchester United have been buoyed in their pursuit of Thomas Muller, after Bayern Munich’s chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge suggested that he would allow the player to leave.

Louis van Gaal is set to be named as David Moyes’ successor at Old Trafford in the coming days, and the Dutchman is already rumoured to be lining up signings.

One man he has his eye on is Muller, whom he handed his Bayern debut when in charge at the club.

The 24-year-old is rumoured to be keen to link up with the experienced chief at the Theatre of Dreams, with his playing time having been limited under Pep Guardiola this term.

Although he is valued highly by Bayern and thought of as a fans’ favourite, Rummenigge suggested that he could be allowed to leave:

“Muller’s situation? If a player does not feel well at Bayern Munich, he should come to my office,” he is quoted Goal.

“We will have to talk about things like that.”

Despite his limited playing time, Muller has netted an impressive 13 Bundesliga goals this term.

United are also thought to be eyeing other Bayern stars such as Toni Kroos and Arjen Robben.
