Bayern Munich icon Steffan Effenberg has called on Toni Kroos to reject interest from Manchester United and stay at the Allianz Arena.

The Red Devils have been tracking the current German international for some time, with rumours suggesting that a bid in the region of £40m is being prepared for when the transfer window opens in a few months’ time.

Kroos’ future, as it stands, is up in the air with his contract at Bayern set to expire in 2015.

Negotiations have been rumbling away for some time, yet with the player looking for a massive pay hike and the club far from keen to bow to such demands, there has been little progress.

Effenberg feels that Kroos is currently a key part of one of the best teams on the planet, and that he should think seriously before electing to leave:

“Put it this way: If you have the opportunity to form a successful era at Bayern, you should think two or three times about what step to make.” He told Goal.

“Every player feels enormously well in Munich and at the end of the season, there are titles. Kroos is a key figure, a transfer shouldn’t be an issue.

“He is an important and crucial player – for the system and the new philosophy.”

Effenberg also believes that Arsenal target Mario Mandzukic will not leave despite his spot as the club’s main striker set to be under threat from Robert Lewandowski:

“He said publicly that he has no worries, is not afraid of competition.

“He will accept the challenge. They always say ‘Bayern have a huge squad but are only allowed to play with eleven players’. Then injuries come and the whole discussion is finished. A lot of things adjust themselves.”
