England’s loss is Manchester United’s gain says Giggs
United’s centre-back has been on the exile with England since June 2011, when he won his 81st cap with the Three Lions.
Giggs did not hesitate when asked if England’s loss is United’s gain, although stated they only focus on what happens in their own squad.
“Yes it is. We’re just happy that he’s playing so well for United. The rest of the stuff we’re not too bothered about as long as he keeps putting in performances like that,” Giggs said.
The player with the most appearances in a United shirt praised his team-mate after his performance in the Champions League draw at the Bernabeu against Real Madrid, pointing out Ferdinand has shown that level of consistency throughout the season.
“He’s just a top player. He has proved that again and again, and he proved it again on Wednesday night. He has been playing like that all season,” he added.
For the 39-year-old Welshman, the capacity Rio Ferdinand has shown to adapt his style as seasons passed by has been crucial to remaining at the top – just as he too has done.
“You do have to change your game as you get older and he has done that really well,” admitted Giggs, adding that Rio’s standard at the age of 34 shows “the way he has looked after himself and the ability he has got”.
