Rio Ferdinand

England boss Roy Hodgson is set to call up Rio Ferdinand to his next Three Lions squad in a shock U-turn decision according to the Daily Mirror.

Hodgson will name his 23 man squad to face San Marino and Montenegro on Thursday and it is though that Ferdinand may have played his way back into his plans after being shunned by the former Liverpool boss over the past 12 months.

Ferdinand was dropped due to ‘footballing reasons’ but it was widely speculated that Hodgson would only ever pick either him or Chelsea’s John Terry.

With Terry’s continued absence at Stamford Bridge and a shortage of fit centre backs, 34 year old Ferdinand is set to step in for the two must win World Cup qualifiers.

Tottenham defender Michael Dawson is also set for a recall after his fine individual displays at White Hart Lane this season have been closely monitored by Hodgson.
