Premier League referees are rarely the most liked people on a football pitch, but Mark Clattenburg looks to have taken player and referee relationships to a whole new level.

There are times when referees can get a little too close with the players during games, just as Clattenburg demonstrated in the goalless draw with between Arsenal and Manchester United at the Emirates in Wednesday night.

Clattenburg stopped a United counter attack to attend to the injured Kieron Gibbs, which appeared to really anger David de Gea – that was until the referee arrived and reassured him by stroking his beard. Is it love?
