Robin van Persie has insisted the comments made in the aftermath of Manchester United’s Champions League defeat to Olympiakos were not aimed at his teammates or David Moyes, reports the Daily Mirror.

The Dutch forward complained to a TV station from his homeland, that his teammates were running into spaces he felt he should be occupying.

But the former Arsenal man has apologised for his comments and pulled teammates aside in training to assure them he wasn’t complaining about them.

Van Persie has insisted he was talking about his own game, rather than complaining about their performance or the tactics instilled by under-fire boss David Moyes.

The comments were believed to have caused unrest in the champions dressing room, with the 30-year-old said to be ‘genuinely shocked’ his comments were perceived as a self-centered moan.

Fellow striker Javier Hernandez appeared to launch a thinly veiled attack on his teammate, by writing on his Instagram account: “Without your teammates you can’t be somebody in football…always be thankful.”

However, the Mexican later took to Twitter to insist his comments were not aimed at van Persie.

He tweeted: “My comment on Instagram had nothing to do with RVP. We are great teammates working for the same goal, the TEAM! & Cause the team isn’t doing as well as we’d like everyone just wants to make everything look like a bad thing!”
