Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick believes that for the first time in a while Liverpool will enter their clash at Old Trafford as favourites.

The bitter rivals are set to meet on Sunday at the Premier League champions’ home ground in a game that is already being dubbed as pivotal for the remainder of the Red Devils’ season.

David Moyes’ men have endured a woeful 2013/14 campaign, with the Scot having struggled since taking over in the dugout from the iconic Sir Alex Ferguson.

Over the course of the past decade the Manchester outfit have been the more dominant of the two sides in terms of league position, but this time around Liverpool will travel to the Theatre of Dreams with a clear advantage in terms of positions over their foes.

The Merseysiders are already 11 points clear of United, and could effectively rule out any chance of their enemies finishing in the top four with a win.

Carrick believes that March is a huge month for his side, and that they will be underdogs this weekend:

“It’s a big month ahead, we’re well aware of that.” He is quoted by the Daily Star.

“It’s Liverpool next and that’s a big one. Regardless of where both teams are in the league it’s an important fixture.

“In recent times, with this rivalry, we’ve been on top of them in the league and it’s the other way around at the moment.

“But I don’t think league places affect the game. We’d say it if we’re top of the table that form goes out of the window against Liverpool, it counts for very little, and that’s the case now.

“It should be a good game and we’re all looking forward to it.”
