Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal is ready to risk angering sections of the club’s supporters by launching a move for former Liverpool star Dirk Kuyt, according to reports from the Daily Mail.

The 33-year-old is currently a part of the Red Devils chief’s Netherlands squad at the World Cup, where he has been a key useful squad member.

Although he is far from being a star for the Oranje, van Gaal is known to be a huge admirer of the versatile forward’s selfless attitude and tendency to work hard.

He is known to be keen to get players he trusts to Old Trafford as he plots to ensure that United return to the Champions League next season, and sees Kuyt as a good option.

The attacking workhorse spent six years with bitter rivals Liverpool after signing for the Merseyside club in 2006 under Rafa Benitez.

Although he never fulfilled his description as a goal-getter for the Reds, he became a cult hero at Anfield thanks to his supreme work-ethic.

Kuyt now plays for Fenerbahce in Turkey, and is likely to be available for a minimal fee.
