Manchester United interim manager Ryan Giggs believes that his side will be battling for the Premier League title next season.

The Red Devils have gone from reigning champions to a club that will not be in next season’s Champions League after a disastrous campaign under the guidance of David Moyes.

The Scot was sacked when top level European football was rendered mathematically impossible last week, and has since been replaced by Giggs on a temporary basis.

United are expected to name an experienced permanent manager over the summer and embark on a major spending spree, with reclaiming their place at the top of the pile a priority.

Giggs – who is unlikely to be in charge of the first-team for the 2014/15 campaign – feels that the Old Trafford outfit will be back to their best next term and that they can battle for the league title:

“We’ve got everything in place to have a successful season next year. We’ve certainly got the players.” He is quoted by Sky Sports.

“It’s going to be hard, obviously, because we’ve had a tough season and obviously the lads at Liverpool have improved and other teams around us have improved.

“It won’t be easy, but I’m confident.

“We won the league last year. The year before we lost it on goal difference, the year before that we won it.

“Where did Liverpool come last year, seventh? Who would have said they would be where they are this year, so a lot can change.”
