Manchester United manager David Moyes has urged fans of the club not to expect big money players to be arriving at Old Trafford this month.

The Red Devils have been linked with a host of players from all across Europe in recent weeks, with the Scot and his assistants having been on various scouting missions.

Their actions have been sparked by a difficult opening half of the season which has seen the defending champions slip out of this year’s Premier League title race and the FA Cup, allied to a failure to land a number of top targets over the summer.

Moyes says that he is keen to bring in one or two new players this month in a bid to strengthen, but he also warned followers of the club not to get their hopes up:

“As I have said many times, it is not a particularly good month to buy players.” He told Sky Sports.

“I would hate to get people’s hopes up and end up with nobody. In the same breath we are certainly not sitting back and doing nothing, that’s for sure.

“If we could pick up one or two players in this window we said we would try and do it.”

United have been linked with Atletico Madrid’s Koke, Fabio Coentrao of Real Madrid and German pair Ilkay Gundogan and Marco Reus – who both play for Borussia Dortmund – among others.
