Manchester United are hopeful of securing a summer deal for Southampton full-back Luke Shaw, according to reports from the Daily Star.

The 18-year-old defender has emerged as one of English football’s finest talents over the course of the past year, establishing himself as a key member of the Saints’ first XI while putting himself on the Three Lions’ radar ahead of the World Cup.

His performances have also attracted attention from some of the Premier League’s ‘big boys’, including United.

Moyes’ men tabled a £22.5m offer for the left–sided ace in January, and are believed to have left the ball in Southampton’s court ahead of the summer.

The Hampshire club have insisted that their first-team stars are not for sale, but with off-field issues still rumbling away their stance may change.

Chelsea are also interested, but the Red Devils are hopeful that guaranteed playing time will make them more attractive to Shaw.

Moyes is keen to replace Patrice Evra, and has made the Saints starlet his top target after missing out on Leighton Baines – who recently penned a new contract with Everton.
