Man United have had their fair share of legends in recent years. Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes, Gary Neville etc.

But whilst they all starting hanging up their boots and taking up jobs within the media, one legend remained prominent in United’s offering. Until now, that is.

Howard Webb has played a huge part in the Red Devil’s success in recent seasons, particularly when Sir Alex Ferguson was still the Old Trafford boss. His performances for the former Premier League champions wained a little last season, which perhaps convinced new boss Louis Van Gaal to suggest to Webb that he should probably call it a day.

It’s a sad moment in Manchester United’s history as they enter a new era following the David Moyes disaster last term. Here’s how the fans have reacted on Twitter…
