Ex-Manchester United striker Louis Saha believes that his old club need to spend big this summer to lift the feeling of disappointment at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils have endured a difficult 12 months, in which they have gone from Premier League champions to a side that will not be competing in the Champions League next term.

Some of this is down to former manager David Moyes, who was recently sacked after failing to bring even close to the same level of success to the club as was enjoyed under his predecessor Sir Alex Ferguson.

As a result of on-field failings, United are expected to spend big when the transfer window opens, with their next manager – tipped to be Louis van Gaal – set to be handed around £150m-£200m to get fresh talent to the club.

Saha, who played at the club under Fergie, feels that a few high-profile signings – similar to that of the 2012 arrival Robin van Persie – will be enough to turn things around:

“You have to bring players in and if those players are the right ones then they will definitely bring success back to the club,” he is quoted by The Express.

“When we bought Robin van Persie (in 2012) he was a big signing, he lifted the club and he won us the league and this is what one signing can do.

“People talk about money and say this is destroying the game but money talks.”
