Manchester United have been offered the chance to sign Monaco’s Joao Moutinho for around £15million, according to Metro.

The Portugal international wants out of the Ligue 1 club and his agent Jorge Mendes, who is also trying to finalise Radamel Falcao’s loan move to Old Trafford, is hoping to tempt Louis Van Gaal in to purchasing yet another midfielder this summer.

Man United had been on the trail of Juventus midfielder Arturo Vidal all summer but failed to agree a fee with the Seria A giants.

And with midfield duo Tom Cleverley and Anderson both expected to leave Old Trafford before tonight’s 11pm transfer window deadline, it is believed Van Gaal is willing to entertain the move for Moutinho as an ideal Vidal alternative.

Moutinho came close to signing for Tottenham two years ago after a long love affair with the north London that never managed to materialise and has made no secret of his desire to play in the Premier League.
