Bayern Munich president Uli Hoeness has denied Lothar Matthaus claim that the German club has reached a deal over Borussia Dortmund striker Robert Lewandowski.

Former Fifa World Player told ESPN the only question remaining was whether the Polish hitman, who has been heavily linked to Manchester United, would join the Bavarian club at the end of this season or in 2014, when his contract expires.

“His contract runs out in 2014. Dortmund could cash in on him in 2013. They would get a high fee – I have overheard something like €25 million to €30 million – or he could join Bayern on a free in 2014”, Matthaus assured.

But Uli Hoeness claimed former Bayern captain has no voice in the club’s transfer talk: “If Lothar confirms this, then soon he will be the general manager at Bayern”, the chairman said.

Hoeness also showed his nonconformity with Matthaus meddling in Bayern’s signings: “He has become active again in recent months. It was always with womenbut now he’s suddenly discussing new players at Bayern”.

But Matthaus defended his words by trusting the reliability of his sources: “Uli Hoeness also knows I have been in the business for 30 years now. I have good contacts, not only domestically but also internationally. A reliable source – one who would know – told me that Lewandowski will join Bayern”, former midfielder affirmed.

Matthaus also backed up his statement by saying he will “apologise” to Hoeness if he is wrong.
