Manchester United are eying up a sensational summer swoop for Cheltenham Town winger Jermaine McGlashan.

After a bitterly disappointing first season in charge at Old Trafford, David Moyes has already begun eyeing up potential summer signings to help spearhead his attempts at emulating the success of Sir Alex Ferguson.

And Moyes has identified Cheltenham Town’s McGlashan as the perfect replacement for Ashley Young, who is expected to leave Old Trafford in the summer.

United scouts were sent to watch the 25-year-old in the Robins’ victory over Hartlepool last weekend and returned with a glowing report after McGlashan netted the only goal of the game.

A source close to Football FanCast said: “Moyes may have a £200m transfer kitty but he’s eager to unearth a few wonderkids from the lower leagues to show that he can still be successful without spending mega bucks.

“He has been a long term of admirer of McGlashan, particularly during his time at Aldershot, and has been equally impressed with his performances for Cheltenham this season.

“You can expect to see more of United’s scouts at Whaddon Road between now and the end of the season before an official bid is made in the summer.”

McGlashan began his career at Staines Town before working his way up in to the Football League with Aldershot in 2010.

He signed for Cheltenham last year and has scored six goals in 37 league appearances this season.
