Manchester United are ready to test Juventus’ willingness to keep Arturo Vidal after receiving encouragement from the player’s camp, according to reports from the Daily Mail.

The Chile international is understood to have emerged as Louis van Gaal’s top target for the coming months on the back of his World Cup showings, with the Dutchman desperate to partner Ander Herrera with a competent box-to-box midfielder.

Vidal has starred for Juve during their recent successes, but despite United’s lack of Champions League football it is said that the player himself is open to a move to Old Trafford.

The Old Lady value the 27-year-old at over £40m, but the Red Devils are willing to test their resolve with a bid of around £30m plus Nani.

The Serie A champions have been linked with the Portuguese winger on a number of occasions in recent seasons, and may be tempted by the chance to get him to Turin.

United were watching Vidal while David Moyes was in charge, but a move for his services failed to materialise.
