Manchester United are ready to outbid both Manchester City and Chelsea to land Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani, according to reports from the Daily Mail.

Despite the Red Devils being set for a season out of the Champions League, a summer of lavish spending is expected at Old Trafford, with the club ready to pay large fees to attract top stars.

Cavani is seen as a priority target, with the Uruguayan – who partners Liverpool’s Luis Suarez at international level – rumoured to be ready to leave PSG after just one season.

The prolific forward is believed to have grown frustrated at being shifted to a wide role to accommodate talismanic forward Zlatan Ibrahimovic, and could call time on his spell in Paris.

United are ready to match the £50m fee the Ligue 1 champions paid for him last year and put him on a salary close to that of Wayne Rooney – who recently penned a £300,000-per-week deal.

City and Chelsea are also keen, but neither club are believed to be ready to splash such amounts on the player with other targets also in mind.

If such a deal can be secured it could open the door for Robin van Persie to leave.

The Dutchman has been unsettled at United for much of the season with Arsenal rumoured to be keen to re-sign him.
