Shinji Kagawa will discuss his future at Manchester United with Louis van Gaal after the World Cup, according to his agent.

The Japanese midfielder has been a bit part player at Old Trafford since his 2012 move from Dortmund, where he had developed a reputation as one of European football’s top talents.

His former club have been linked with a swoop to take him back to Germany, but with the managerial role at United having been uncertain for a while the situation has remained up in the air.

But with van Gaal now in charge, Kagawa’s agent, Thomas Kroth, says that his client will look to gain some clarity when the World Cup has ended:

“Shinji will play the World Cup first and then evaluate what are the plans with Louis van Gaal.” He is quoted by The Express.

“At present it is difficult to say if he will leave the club.”

Kagawa made 26 appearances for United last term, with former chief David Moyes having appeared to not be a fan of the silky passer.

He spoke out about his treatment on a few occasions, and has been heavily linked with a return to Dortmund, where he is still a fans’ favourite after helping them secure two Bundesliga titles.

The 25-year-old’s role under van Gaal appears uncertain, with the Dutchman looking to add big names to a squad already containing the likes of Adnan Januzaj, Wayne Rooney and Juan Mata in attacking areas.
