Manchester United’s hopes of landing Borussia Dortmund defender Mats Hummels have taken a blow, with the German’s agent stating that his client is happy where he is.

New Red Devils chief Louis van Gaal has reportedly made the centre-back one of his top targets after sealing his much-anticipated switch to Old Trafford.

With Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand both leaving the Theatre of Dreams in the coming months, the Dutchman – who will manage his nation at the World Cup – is aware that he needs a commanding figure to shore up his backline, and is willing to dedicate a big chunk of his rumoured £150m-£200m budget towards getting Hummels.

However the 25-year-old’s father, and agent, Herman, told talkSPORT that the enforcer is not thinking about leaving Dortmund:

“I know Louis van Gaal from his time at Bayern Munich,

“He’s not contacted me about Mats moving to Manchester [United] though.

“I have heard some rumours but Mats is happy at Dortmund at the moment, and only thinking about the World Cup,“

As well as Hummels, fellow Bundesliga star Toni Kroos of Bayern Munich is said to be one of van Gaal’s targets.

The 62-year-old is also thought to be looking at former Arsenal playmaker Cesc Fabregas and Holland international Jordy Clasie.
