Daily Star.

The England international is believed to have made his intentions perfectly clear to members of United’s hierarchy after growing frustrated with life at the club following a number of high profile first-team exclusions last season under Sir Alex Ferguson.

New chief David Moyes is believed to have met with ‘Wazza’ three or four times in an attempt to smooth over the situation, but it is thought that he has been unable to convince the Liverpudlian to change his mind.

Due to this, a summer move is thought to be only solution, with Chelsea said to be leading the race for his signature.

Rooney has been linked with Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid and Barcelona, but a number of Premier League clubs are keen to offer him an exit route.

Chelsea and Manchester City are believed to be the front-runners due to their ability to match his £240,000-per-week wages, but Arsenal are also in the fight with Arsene Wenger appearing to have lofty transfer ambitions for the coming months.

The 27-year-old recently returned early from United’s pre-season tour with a hamstring injury, further increasing speculation that a move is imminent.
