Manchester United flop Anderson could finally be set to leave Old Trafford, with former club Porto interested in his signature, according to reports from The Mirror.

The Brazilian midfielder moved to the current Premier League champions from the Portuguese giants in a £24m deal during 2007 with a reputation as one of the best young players in Europe.

However, the 25-year-old has failed to live up to expectation at the club, and despite showing glimpses of his ability has long been considered one of Sir Alex Ferguson’s worst signings.

It was rumoured that he may have more of a role to play under David Moyes this season, but the new United chief has also overlooked the South American, prompting talk of a move away.

Porto have been alerted by this, and are ready to offer Anderson a route back to the Estadio do Dragao.

An initial loan agreement is thought to be on the cards, but Jose Mourinho and Andre Villas-Boas’ former side are keen to use this as a route to a permanent transfer.

Moyes is looking to add to his current midfield ranks, but is aware that he may need to shift to stagnant first-team player in order free up space and funds.

Benfica’s Nemanja Matic and Ilkay Gundogan of Borussia Dortmund are on his radar.
