Manchester United‘s Phil Jones left Old Trafford on crutches Monday night after suffering an injury during the FA cup tie against Reading.

Jones who played really well in shackling Cristiano Ronaldo against Real Madrid at the Bernebeu last week, hurt his ankle in a challenge with Jason McAnuff and his loss is a huge blow for Sir Alex Ferguson.

Fergie admits that it is a waiting game and that Jones is most likely to be out of Saturday’s game against QPR at the very least.

“We’ll have to assess it in the morning,” said Ferguson. “It’s an ankle injury obviously so I’d imagine he’ll not be ready for Saturday anyway. But we’ll see what he’s like after that.” according to Sky Sports

Ferguson will be hoping that Phil Jones will regain fitness in time for Real Madrid’s visit to Old Trafford next week, and they also play Chelsea or Middlesbrough in the FA cup the week after.

Ferguson could be facing some selection dilemmas after Nani injected some life into the Manchester United side by scoring in the 69th minute and in doing so staked a claim for a first team start.

‘He’s got great talent, we know that,’ said Ferguson.

‘I had a feeling he would win the game for us. You could see he was right on form the moment he came on.

‘He had two great strikes immediately and was a threat to them the whole night’
