Manchester United ready to offload Rooney
Manchester United are prepared to allow Wayne Rooney to leave Old Trafford this summer, according to reports from The Mirror.
The England international was dropped to the bench for the Red Devils’ vital Champions League clash with Real Madrid on Tuesday, a match they eventually lost.
Rooney was said to be furious at Sir Alex Ferguson for his omission from the starting XI, and the Scot’s actions could have pushed their relationship to breaking point.
There will be no shortage of potential suitors for the 27-year-old, but Chelsea, Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain are thought to be the favoured candidates.
A bid of around £35m may be enough to persuade United to offload ‘Wazza’, with Robin van Persie having taken his spot as the focal point of Fergie’s attack.
Although he is widely regarded as one of the club’s top stars, there are on running concerns regarding his general fitness.
With two years left on his contract it would appear to be the ideal time to extend Rooney’s deal, but a lack of action from United hints that they are willing to sell up.
The ex-Everton man has an impressive record in the red shirt, netting 195 goals in 394 appearances for the club since joining in 2004.
