Manchester United target Ander Herrera insists he will not be leaving Athletic Bilbao despite the interest from the Premier League champions, reports the Daily Mirror.

The Spanish midfielder was the subject of a deadline day bid from United which fell through.

Rumours have been rife that United boss David Moyes is set to return with an improved offer in January, but Herrera insists he will be going nowhere due to the importance he holds for his current club.

“I appreciate both Manchester United’s interest in me and the fact that I am considered so important to Athletic that they did not accept any bid for me,” Herrera said.

“That means that Athletic values me above money and trust in me more than money for our current project. I’m right where I want to be. I’m not a player who wants to change teams, I’ve taken root at Athletic and it is the perfect place for me to be.”

David Moyes remains desperate to add midfield reinforcements in January, after an injury to influential star Michael Carrick.

Tom Cleverley and Marouane Fellaini have struggled for form this season, while Brazilian midfielder Anderson has been deemed surplus to requirements.

40-year-old Ryan Giggs has perhaps been Manchester United’s best performer in the middle of the park this season, a fact which has Moyes actively looking for new midfield talent, with Atletico Madrid’s Koke believed to be a top target.
