Manchester United are keen to seal a £22.5m deal for Southampton’s Luke Shaw before the end of the month, according to reports from The Mirror.

The Saints starlet has been linked with a host of the Premier League’s biggest clubs in recent times after emerging as one of England’s finest young players.

The 18-year-old is already a key first-team player at St Mary’s Stadium, and is being tipped to become the Three Lions’ number one left-back in the not too distant future.

Reports suggest that United have launched a £22.5m swoop for the teenager, and are hopeful that they can enter negotiations with the player this weekend.

Southampton have always been adamant that Shaw is not for sale but with uncertainty gripping the club following Nicola Cortese’s shock exit, they could alter their stance.

United boss David Moyes was believed to have made Leighton Baines his top left-sided defensive target, but he has been deterred by Everton’s reluctance to sell.

With a blank chequebook at his disposal this month, the Scot is ready to snap up Shaw, who is seen as a better long-term investment.
