Manchester United are set to launch a £20m January move for Southampton defender Luke Shaw, despite the South Coast club having shown signs that they are unwilling to do business, according to reports from The Telegraph.

The 18-year-old left-back has emerged as one of the Premier League’s top talents in 2013, and has firmly established himself in the Saints’ starting XI despite age.

Shaw’s impressive displays have caught the eye of David Moyes, who is ready to make a serious move for his services as he plots to replace Patrice Evra.

The Scot was thought to have made Leighton Baines his top target, but Everton’s firm stance that their man is not for sale at any price could thwart any deal.

The teenage full-back is seen as an ideal alternative and a player who has a much brighter future than the 29-year-old Toffees star.

Shaw only penned a new contract St Mary’s Stadium over the summer, but United are hopeful that a big money offer could turn the starlet’s head, particularly with the 2014 World Cup on the horizon.

Southampton have indicated that they are far from keen to discuss a deal for their talented youngster, while Chelsea are also watching the situation.

Much better choice than Baines. Young with pace and tremendous potential
