Manchester United look set to firm up their interest in Sporting Lisbon’s William Carvalho in January, after sending scouts to watch the midfielder earlier this week, according to reports from talkSPORT.

The Red Devils have been strongly linked ith the 21-year-old over the course of the last few months, and are rumoured to have had representatives watch him on numerous occasions.

Now reports suggest that a party from the Premeir League champions was in attendance for Sporting’s recent clash with Gil Vicente – a game the Lisbon giants won 2-0.

David Moyes is believed to be ready to bolster his squad next month in a bid to right the wrongs of a woeful start to the season, with his midfield believed to be an area of concern.

Carvalho – a holding player – is thought to be on the Scot’s radar, with a rugged enforcer on his wish list.

United have a long-standing relationship with Sporting having signed both Nani and Cristiano Ronaldo from them, and are hopeful that this could give them the upper hand over other interested clubs.

Born in Angola, the youngster has elected to pursue an international career with Portugal, for whom he made his senior debut last month during their 3-2 play-off win against Sweden.
