The Times.

The 18-year-old has quickly emerged as one of the Premier League’s best left-sided defenders after breaking into the Saints’ first-team last season.

United have been linked with a move for his signature for some time, and are believed to be ready to make a serious offer when the transfer window re-opens.

Everton’s Leighton Baines was believed to be David Moyes’ top target, but his former club’s firm stance that the England international will not be sold may scupper a move.

Patrice Evra is rumoured to be considering leaving Old Trafford at the end of the season once his contract expires, and it is thought that the Premier League champions see Shaw as the ideal man to fill the void should the French veteran move on.

Southampton are desperate to keep one of the latest talents to emerge from their academy set-up, but may be willing to sell if a large offer is received.

Shaw himself could also be keen to make the move, with the prospect of playing for one of the country’s top club sides likely to boost his hopes of making England’s squad for the 2014 World Cup.

Would Luke Shaw be a better option for Manchester United than Leighton Baines?

Give it a rest ….. what a crap article ….. no Southampton are not desperate nor is Shaw keen to make a move to a mid table club …. we don’t need their money – we are doing ok, Shaw can make the England team with Saints, if Saints are not good enough for England then the England team will lose out on his talent

I think you’ll find he is playing for one of the county’s top clubs

He wouldn’t want to drop down to a mid table side, and Southampton don’t need to sell. It won’t stop this “story” re-appearing over the rest of the season though

Shaw to United? Don’t make me laugh. He will stay with the better team for sure.
