Manchester United left-back Alexander Buttner is expected to be loaned out in the summer in a bid to gain more first team experience, goal.com reports.

Sir Alex Ferguson is believed to be willing to let the 23-year-old Dutchman out on loan for a period of time next season, as he is currently unable to offer him regular football at Old Trafford.

The player who signed from Dutch club Vitesse in the summer, has played just once in the league, with his other appearances coming in cup competitions, such as Saturdays draw at West Ham in the FA Cup.

His solitary league start came in September in what was an eventful debut for the attacking left-back, as he scored as well as assisted a goal in a 4-0 victory at home to Wigan.

Ferguson has made it clear that despite the lack of opportunities so far for Buttner, he is a big part of his plans for the future and is viewed as Patrice Evra’s eventual successor.

“We took him [Buttner] for the future and to succeed Patrice Evra,” the United boss told Dutch broadcaster Omroep Gelderland.

“What we wanted was an attack-minded left back and we see this in him. He trains very well, has a house and is completely settled here in England.”

Ferguson has also been heavily linked with Everton’s Leighton Baines, with current first choice left back Patrice Evra now 31-years-old and coming to the twilight of his career.
