It was almost symbolic that United’s latest Premier League victory was initiated by a Paul Scholes and rounded off by Nick Powell. Age wise almost two decades separate the midfield pair but on the field Powell emerged serious contender to the throne Scholes has held at Old Trafford since breaking into the first team in 1993. Replacing the evergreen 37-year-old has caused Sir Alex Ferguson to search far and wide for a player capable of filling the void left by the Ginger Prince when he finally decides to hang up his boots. 18-year-old Powell, who last season was plying his trade in League Two, could be the answer after he came off the bench to score a stunning goal on Premier League debut and displaying a confidence, control and maturity beyond his tender years. Robin Van PErsie aside Ferguson has focused heavily on youth recruitment this summer with the signings of Alex Buttner, another impressive debutant, and Shinji Kagawa expected to herald a new era for the Red Devils. One that will stretch beyond Ferguson’s legendary tenure.
This week on FFC can Patrice Evra maintain his first team spot ahead of Buttner and which Italian defender are United and Chelsea looking at?
