Robin van Persie has hailed Manchester United as a “special team” following his sides 4-0 victory at Wigan yesterday in which he scored twice, the Guardian reports.

The Dutch international has enjoyed an excellent start to his Manchester United career, taking his tally to 19 goals in all competitions so far following his move from Arsenal in the summer.

He has been quick to praise the contribution of the rest of his teammates though, saying “This is a special team”.

“Everybody wants to help each other. Everybody’s keen for everyone to score. Defenders are working their socks off for the midfielders, the midfielders are working for the strikers. Everybody wants to run and everybody has one target in their mind.”

The 29-year-old who was last seasons PFA Player of The Year for his fantastic displays at Arsenal, has continued in the same vein of form since arriving at Old Trafford and has quickly settled into his new surroundings.

He has featured in all of United’s league games so far this season, scoring 16 times as well as providing nine assists, leaving him well on track to match his 30 league goal haul which he achieved at Arsenal.

The Red Devils collected 10 from a possible 12 points over the busy festive period of fixtures, and lead second place Manchester City by seven points.

If Robin van Persie steers clear of injury for the rest of the campaign, Ferguson will hope that he can prove to be the difference in helping his side regain their Premier League crown.
