Sir Alex Ferguson noted in his recently published autobiography that a central pillar behind his incredibly successful Manchester United tenure was always knowing who his best defenders were and which ones he could undoubtedly rely upon.

David Moyes hasn’t had such luck however – he’s used ten different players in defence in the Premier League already this season, and only Patrice Evra has managed more than 15 starts.

Many have pointed to the inadequacies of the Red Devils midfield, but there’s no doubt the backline could do with some attention of its own, especially as Evra, Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand’s Old Trafford contracts enter their final 18 months.

So with that in mind, here’s a list of SIX signings David Moyes should make that would help usher in a new defensive dawn at Old Trafford.
